My business story
After learning the ropes from another successful Insurance Broker in Dunedin, I set out on my own and created Tom West Risk Advisers. Being self employed and building a business has taught me a lot about myself and after being a one man band for a long time, I have now employed an Office Manager with a business and marketing background. This will ensure I can operate at full capacity to ensure my clients are always getting the best advice and service they deserve.
About Us
(Hugo) Thomas West
I'm born and bred in Dunedin and love all that the city has to offer. I attended Otago Boys High School and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Education at University of Otago. After living and traveling abroad for 7 years, I returned to Dunedin in 2009 and began working as an Insurance Adviser.
What gets me out of bed in the morning is knowing I am helping people. I'm a social person but I like to think I don't just make acquaintances, I take the time to get to know people and make a connection. This has helped me in life and developing my business over the past 10 years.
What I like about working with Ashley is that she is organised like no other I've met before and has a knack for social media and marketing (which apparently I need help with). We have two fur-babies and look forward to having a human baby in the not so distant future.
I like to keep fit in my spare time by running, mountain biking and doing yoga which also keeps me sane. I regularly catch up with my mates - usually on the golf course when business allows.
Ashley Braam
I also call Dunedin home and think it offers a quality of life that is hard to find. I lived and traveled overseas mostly operating in the hospitality industry managing restaurants. I then came home and started a successful Real Estate career. After six years of building a business from the ground up I have decided to take a slower pace of life and concentrate on starting a family.
What gets me out of bed in the morning (other than the whining dog) is living each day as it comes and building a secure future. My back ground in business and delivering strong customer service makes it easy to transition into Tom's business.
What I like about working with Tom is that he really cares about his clients and knows everyone individually. He doesn't like to just know your name he wants to know what you do, when you do it and how it happens. This has led him to developing a successful business based on referrals and retention.
I also like to keep fit and sane by doing regular yoga and in the weekend you'll usually find both of us on one of Dunedin's dog friendly walks.
